Okay, fine, it's not a twin rotor. But it is a rotary twin!
I've seen one of these tiny Wankel's in person, a friend of mine has one. He's afraid to put it on a plane because they are fairly rare and really expensive. Also super cool!

Cool stuff. Noisy little bastards, aren't they?
Also, that pilot is some kind of smooth.

Looks like O.S. is still making these engines, but not in partnership with Graupner:

Yes, but they are hella expensive

Similarly sized electric motor could be had for less than $100 with motor/esc/battery combo

This is true, I am not sure what motor you posted (tower is our competition and they have us blocked) but for a quality electric motor (hacker) you're going to spend a bit more, factor in a couple of quality lipos and you're just as expensive as a gas setup.

'Quality' depends on the application. I've never used Hacker, but I don't think I need that much quality. I've been buying off brand electric motors for a while and never had an issue. Same goes for battteries, I've been using the same chinese lipo's for 2 years with no problems, just store them properly and don't discharge them too low.

Chinese lipos in our experience don't last long, ours tend to puff up after a few uses, but we use them hard. As for motors, its a crap shoot, most will last for ever, but a quality electric motor will give you more life, more reliability, and more efficiency.
That being said, its all crap anyways, and it all crashes eventually :)
